WINGS Tour: Amazon Lowlands
Tuesday, February 27, 2018
Ah, the Amazon. It’s a place as a visitor that engenders a bit of a love-hate relationship. The birding is great, and in many ways it feels like stepping off of the edge of the world and into some other plane. It’s hot and humid and buggy, sometimes oppressively so. But, for all the hardships, it’s just so damned spectacular for an nature enthusiast that it ranks as one of those “world’s special places” that is a required visit for all humans. Photos and narrative from the tour are HERE.
When the Great Potoo rocked forward, it stopped looking like just another part of the tree. It also opened its bill just a little, but enough to reveal just how enormous its mouth actually is. I’d love to see one of these things catch something at night.
