WINGS Tour: East Slope of the Andes
Saturday, February 17, 2018
We did the many ups and downs of birding the east slope. It’s a great route that goes almost to the snow line, then downhill all the way to Amazonian foothill rainforest. It’s a style of tour that I like most: stay two nights at a different eco-lodge, then move on. This way, on just about every morning, you just roll out of bed and start birding. Photos and tales are HERE.
Perfectly camouflaged, and shuffling around where few other birds can be found, Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe is a much sought-after bird of the Andes. The Papallacta area might be the only ones that can be reached by car, with minimal hiking. Good thing, too, because at about 15000’, there isn’t much air.
