WinGS Tour: Southern Ecuador

We just finished another great tour up, down, and all around southern Ecuador, tallying 506 species as we traveled far and wide to get into each valley and skirt every mountaintop. We visited habitats that seemed very foreign to each other: cold, high alpine tundra, dense lowland rainforest, arid scrub, tropical deciduous forest, and mangrove woodland. And, in each, we had fun finding the characteristic species that makes birding southern Ecuador so diverse and exciting.
HERE is a photo-enhanced narrative of the tour.

Want to see some of the non-bird things we saw? Go HERE.
This is a photo of a couple of Jocotoco Antpittas being videoed on a cell phone. No problem seeing these iconic birds of Southern Ecuador! (There are plenty of other antpittas that are harder to see!)
